Article for today: Polarised Lenses, What are they? And what is Polarization?

What are Polarised Lenses?
Polarised Lenses are ideal for drivers, boaters and fishers because they help the wearer see through water. They also help reduce the light and glare from reflective surfaces like water and glass.
How do Polarised Lenses work?
Polarised Lenses have a special vertical filter that blocks the glare. When the sunlight shines down on a reflective surface (such as water or glass) it sends a glare upwards in the opposite direction like a mirror reflecting light. The reflected light aligns with the projected light which produces a horizontal glare. Polarised Lenses only allow in vertical light so the horizontal glare is eliminated.
The History of Polarised Lenses...
Polarised material was invented by Edwin Herbert Land in 1929. He discovered that by creating a thin film layered with microscopic crystals it could filter out polarised light. After this discovery he formed the company Polaroid. It only became popular when the film was applied to sunglasses.
